Transaction Monitoring

Database Access and Application Monitoring using Huntsman®

Most corporate databases contain sensitive data, ranging from employee information and customer lists to product data and intellectual property. While it’s quite common to allow customers, suppliers and partners to access some of these databases, the increase in productivity brings increased exposure to risk. In this Application Brief, we show how integrated Database Activity Monitoring (DAM) systems can reduce the risk by:

• Tracking access to databases and applications for unusual user behaviour
• Alerting IT security staff to cyber security threats in real time
• Detecting data breaches, insider theft or fraud before it is too late
• Enforcing a separation of duties for database administrators.

Key terms and topics addressed:

• Data protection, database access monitoring, application access monitoring
• Behavioural Anomaly Detection, baseline of normal activity, protective monitoring
• Compliance monitoring, PCI compliance, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
• Fraud, theft, insider threats, SQL injection attacks
• Data loss prevention, data breach protection, IP protection, infrastructure protection
• Log management, Security Information and Event management (SIEM), adaptive security.

“…now Huntsman analyses the priority and impact of the events as they occur, automatically. It then alerts our teams so they can focus on reducing the risks rather than ploughing through the trial and error process of problem solving.”
